About

Ready to dive into the world of clay, continue a practice you've been developing with us, or revisit it after some time away? This 8-week ceramics class is perfect for beginners, returning students, or those who might be feeling a bit rusty. In a supportive and creative environment, you’ll learn fundamental hand-building techniques before moving on to the potter’s wheel. Our skilled instructors will guide you through each step, ensuring you build a solid foundation in understanding clay and its possibilities.

Throughout the course, you'll:
Explore different hand-building techniques to create unique, tactile pieces. Learn to use the potter’s wheel for creating functional and decorative items. Gain a deep understanding of the clay body we use and develop techniques to succeed with the projects you create.
Discover the ceramic process, from shaping wet clay to firing and glazing your finished pieces. This class is all about learning at your own pace, so whether you're a complete beginner or getting back into ceramics after a break, we’ve got you covered. All materials will be provided including clay, but we do require that you bring a sketchbook with you each class to work on expanding your project development and art practice.

Please note: We do not offer make-up classes, so be sure to attend all 8 sessions to get the most out of your learning experience.

Come ready to create, get your hands dirty, and discover the joy of working with clay!

Required: sketchbook (please bring to each class)

For those interested in starting to build your own ceramic tool box, we suggest the following items to get you started (again, not necessary as we have tools to use in the studio):
-Potter’s Rib – For shaping and smoothing clay.
-Needle Tool – For cutting and scoring clay.
-Wire Cutter – To slice clay from blocks and remove pieces from the wheel.
-Loop/Trim Tools – For trimming and carving.
-Sponge – For adding or removing water, smoothing surfaces.
-Wooden Modeling Tools – For sculpting and detail work.
-Fettling Knife – For cutting and refining edges.
